Closed Cell Silicone Foams
At Stigall Industrial Products, we offer a series of closed cell silicone foams that are engineered for longevity and high performance. Known for such characteristics as heat and water resistance, as well as its low compression set, our silicone foam products are used in a wide range of industries, from aviation to furniture.
What is Silicone Foam?
Closed cell silicone foam is manufactured from a low viscosity liquid silicone which is cast on a smooth liner and cured through inline ovens. Silicone foam is a flexible, light density material with a smooth skin on both sides.
The term closed cell means that the foam has a cellular structure within the material where the cells are completely enclosed and non-interconnecting. The foam is therefore impervious to the transmission of water or moisture. Closed cell silicone foams are currently available in Black or Gray. These colors are limited due to the UL testing protocol.
Benefits of Closed Cell Silicone Foam
- Wide temperature resistance: Able to withstand temperatures greater than 446°F and as low as -76° It is therefore an excellent option for applications with either extreme cold or heat.
- Flame resistant: Silicone foam can withstand 2100°F flame for more than 10 minutes without burning through in thicknesses down to 3/8”. It is also self-extinguishing.
- Low compression set: Capable of resisting compression set and deformation under compressive load. This property makes silicone foam a great choice for sealing applications.
- Food safe: As a non-reactive polymer, closed cell silicone foam exerts little to no effect on food or beverages. Many closed cell silicone foams are FDA-approved for use in food-grade applications.
- Ozone and UV resistant: Making closed cell silicone foam an excellent material for outdoor applications.
- Water and moisture resistance: Closed cellular structure results in good sealing against water, moisture and weather.
- Meets requirements: UL 94HB, UL 94V-0 flame ratings, ASTM D6576, FDA 21 CFR 177.2600.

Silicone Foam Uses
Silicone foam has a wide range of uses. Silicone foam can be used for vibration dampening as well as sealing against fine particulate or water. One of the industries interested in these silicone foam qualities is the electric and autonomous vehicle market. As electronic vehicle manufacturers seek lighter components, silicone foam is a great option. Not only does it reduce weight, it mitigates thermal runaway and provides protection from moisture, debris, vibration and shock for electronic components and EV battery packs.
